What are the different types of mattresses?

Mattress type  Description
Open Coil  Springs connected by a single wire across the whole mattress.
Pocket Sprung  Individual springs each encased in their own fabric pocket, moving independently to respond to the body's shape.
Memory Foam Dense foam that moulds to the body's shape and slowly returns to its original form. Reduces motion transfer.
Latex A naturally resilient, bouncy feel that responds instantly when pressure is removed.
Hybrid Combines a pocket spring core with foam or latex comfort layers on top.
Gel A foam or hybrid mattress incorporating a layer of gel designed to draw heat away from the body and regulate temperature.

The best mattress type depends on your sleeping position, preferences, and budget.

Mattress type  Best for
Open Coil Solo sleepers, guest rooms, children, those on a budget.
Pocket Sprung Couples, back sleepers, those wanting long-term quality and breathability.
Memory Foam Side sleepers and light sleepers easily disturbed by a partner.
Latex Hot sleepers and those wanting a responsive yet contouring feel.
Hybrid Those who want the benefits of both springs and foam.
Gel  Hot sleepers.

How firm should a mattress be?

Mattress firmness should be matched to your sleeping position. Side sleepers generally benefit from a softer to medium firmness, as this allows the mattress to cushion the shoulders and hips and keep the spine aligned. Back sleepers tend to do best on a medium to firm mattress that supports the natural curve of the lower back. Front sleepers usually need a firmer surface to prevent the hips from sinking too deeply.

Should I turn or rotate my mattress?

Yes. regularly turning and rotating your mattress is one of the best ways to extend its lifespan and maintain even support. Regular rotation prevents body impressions from forming in the same spots, and distributes wear more evenly across the mattress.
