Our what's on in Bristol series continues with the month of September, with summer drawing to a close and the colder months slowly approaching Bristol is giving British summertime an extra-special send-off with an array of activities on offer throughout all of September. There will be plenty on offer for all ages including festivals, art classes and sporting events so you'll never have to worry about staying in this month.
Disney's The Lion King at the Bristol Hippodrome

• Great feats of Engineering: This year Bristol Open Doors is working in partnership with The Royal Academy of Engineering, and 50 bright sparks from the cities best firms to explore some of the iconic landmarks of the city we love; from maritime to aerospace, civic to sound.
• Family Programme: The Bristol Open Doors family strand of the programme is back this year with everything from eco-workshops to circus skills, re-enactments, puppet-making, wild-sound installations, herb identification trails, Victorian film-making workshops and a steam train!
• In our community: As part of the #homesforheroes100 project, Bristol Open Doors joins other organisations across the city to celebrate the centenary of the birth of council housing estates. Working with residents from Knowle West, Hillfields and Sea Mills, we are uncovering the history of Bristol and developing guided tours of these important estates with the people who know them best.

The Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon
The 2019 Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon will return in its fourth year as part of the Great Run Series.
The event comes with its own distinguished history. First staged in 1989 and known as the Bristol Half Marathon, the city centre run has become a long-held tradition in the national running calendar.
Over 10,000 runners every year make this a must-do event with an atmosphere second to none.
The course starts and finishes in Bristol's historic Harbourside. The scenic, sea-level route takes runners past the Harbourside, out and back along the Portway, through the stunning Avon Gorge, and twice under Brunel’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge, along Cumberland Road then around the old city before returning to Anchor Road.

Madness on The Downs
Pop legends Madness will perform a one-off gig on The Downs on Sunday 1st September!
Giving the Bristol summertime an extra-special send-off, the one-day event will also feature esteemed reggae DJ David Rodigan performing with the Outlook Orchestra, as well as the iconic Trojan Soundsystem.
Having had 17 singles reach the UK top ten, including “One Step Beyond, Baggy Trousers and It Must Be Love, British ska pioneers Madness soared to success in the early to mid-1980’s spending 214 weeks on the UK singles charts over the course of the decade.
All tickets are subject to a £1 Down levy which goes towards the upkeep of The Downs.

Art Battle September at Trinity

Painters put their skills to the test with only 20 minutes to turn blank canvases into incredible pieces of original art. Audience vote decides who will go home with the Golden Brush and earn their spot on the City Final. This is Art Battle©.
Artists include Chi-Yien Snow (https://chiyiensnow.com/) who is "Trying to evoke a sense of what can't be seen." Jennifer Roberts (https://www.instagram.com/jenniferrobertsart/) whose work "is bold, detailed and is inspired by literature, nature and especially the human form." Chris Shopland (https://www.instagram.com/extempore_art/) who returns to Art Battle saying, "The atmosphere was amazing and art battle felt like a friendly and energetic place in which to showcase what I can do." It looks to be a fantastic battle with one artist chosen from the audience on the night as a WILDCARD.
All paintings created will be available for silent auction on the night, bridging the gap between creators and collectors, creating a supportive creative community, and allowing audiences to take away a part of the night to remember.

Kicking off international Recovery Month in September, the annual Recovery Festival returns to Bristol to celebrate the achievements and showcase the talents of people in recovery from drugs and alcohol from across the South West.

One Earth Bristol Family Festival
A day of creativity, connection and wellbeing for all generations.
There will be Yoga, meditation and music workshops, tea and cake, sacred singing, a clothes swap, talks on ecology, activism and green living and access to healing therapies.
There will be live music from a Samba band, Kirtan (devotional singing), a choir workshop and a drumming circle.
There'll be a variety of art, kindly donated by local artists available for purchase on the day.
There will be lots of activities for children from forest school, to soap making workshops, yoga sessions, storytelling and music-making. There will also be reps from Extinction Rebellion Youth.
Kabala Kitchen will be offering 100% vegan twists on comfort food classics and 10% of all their turn-over will be donated to STOP ECOCIDE CHANGE THE LAW. Please bring your own plates, bowls and cutlery.
100% of profits from the event will be donated to Stop Ecocide, Change the Law. All efforts will be made to minimise the carbon footprint of the event through locally sourced sustainable vegan catering and sustainable transport options.
This day is in memory of the visionary earth lawyer Polly Higgins who passed away on Easter day at the age of 50. She was the co-founder of Stop Ecocide and was loved and respected by thousands globally.

Bristol City FC v Swansea City at Ashton Gate Stadium
Bristol City FC take on Swansea City in the latest Sky Bet Championship match.
Founded in 1894, and reformed in 1982, Bristol City FC have played their home games at Ashton Gate Stadium since 1904.
The team finished 8th in the league table, after a rollercoaster 2018/19 season, and were part of the battle for the last playoff spot; which ultimately went to Derby County.
The club's home colours are red and white, and their nickname is The Robins. The bird will feature on the club's badge during the 2019/2020 season for the first time in 25 years. Their main rivals are Bristol Rovers, with whom they contest the Bristol derby, and Cardiff City, with whom they contest the Severnside derby.

The Tequila Masterclass
