What's On In Bristol - November

So we know that you probably don’t want to hear it, but with the end of October here and Halloween officially over with the Christmas season is about to take over. Despite the colder weather, the days getting darker and bright Autumn nights ending, a city as exciting as Bristol would never be short of things to do. In an attempt to prolong the calm before the storm we've created a list of a festive and non-festive event happening in and around Bristol which caters to everyone's fancy. From Christmas markets to thrilling theatre shows to festive light switch-ons, November in Bristol is jam-packed with exciting activities to kick winter off with a bang!

Bristol's Christmas Market

Stalls at Bristol Christmas Market

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Come and celebrate the festive season at Bristol Christmas Market, where you’ll find an array of traders selling seasonal delights, crafts and unique items, which are perfect for those hunting for that special Christmas gift.

Located in the very heart of Bristol City Centre, the Christmas market is home to over 50 unique stalls, as well as entertainment from the likes of Santa and reindeer visits in December. Visitors can enjoy heated seating, delicious drinks and live music in the Jäger Barn Bar, and also try their hand at the much-loved sport of curling for some competitive fun.

This is all underneath our glittering Christmas tree, which will be adorned with an array of delightful decorations, and spectacular lights that both welcome and guide you throughout our magical market. The market is within easy reach of the bus & coach station, Temple Meads train station and several car parks.

Wagner's Das Rheingold at St Mary Redcliffe

Wagner's Das Rheingold at St Mary Redcliffe

A rare chance to experience Wagner's opera Das Rheingold in a unique 150th-anniversary production by Tarnhelm Opera, semi-staged and sung in German with English surtitles. The magnificent pipe organ and an array of percussion instruments will support the music while the lofty architecture will add to the drama.

Das Rheingold is the first of the four operas which make up Wagner's celebrated Ring Cycle. While it is the shortest of his operas – approximately two-and-a-half hours in length – it still has the hallmarks of Wagner's monumental handiwork. The storyline, rooted in a world of ancient myth, is compelling and moving. Curious newcomers to Wagner can thus expect to enjoy the production alongside existing devotees.

There are few opportunities to experience Wagner's operas other than in major opera houses and for good reason: The music is conceived on a grand scale and does not easily lend itself to reduced performances. The large size of the orchestras conceived by Wagner, though sumptuous to hear, puts notable upward pressure on ticket prices. The singing is frequently of high intensity and calls for solo voices of considerable stamina.

The work was first performed in Munich 150 years ago, in the autumn of 1869. This production sets out to bring Wagner's great music and drama live to audiences in the West of England and South Wales. Further, to do so in an affordable way but without compromising on excellence in performance.

Dates: 2nd of November, 7.30pm - 10.00pm

Tickets:
£12.50 - £40
Discounts to registered Supporters of Tarnhelm Opera
